You could step through & test continuity of the pins one by one from
the BT
plug end of the cable (where it plugs into the wall socket to the plugin
socket exit at the point its plugged into the RJ45 wall convertor . A
multimeter will achieve this with a single strand of cable from one end to
the other - one with a buzzer is nice.
As the BT phone line comes in to your 'primary' socket the signals I
believe
become separated from the original incoming pair to multiple wires one pair
of which carries the voice and another wire the ring signal (which is the
missing one often coded orange/white) - I think there is also an anti bell
tinkle wire as well for the old pulse dial setups.
