Thanks Phil (and Peter)...

You've now idea how much of that I had to endure over the weekend! :-)
Unfortunately it's one of those eletrical items that buying online isn't
ideal for. I'd rather see the quality of the picture. Although in some of
the stores I wonder why they've even powered them on - such was the poor
quality of the picture!
In store, even with a 50 and 100 side by side I couldn't see any
difference. Although they were showing Pirates of the Carribean from DVD
and not sport.
The Sony Centre I was in also did Loewe (how do you pronounce that?!) but I
didn't look at them as I thought they were out of my price league... Maybe
I'll have a second look.

Sounds like you've come across an example of the breed
"Cretinus-Storeassistant-arsolius"...
....100Hz processing can reduce the amount of flicker that you see from a
TV
screen if you are susceptible to perceiving flicker *HOWEVER* as a TV image
is transmitted as two interlaced fields at 25 times a second (with slight
movement possible between fields) then the processing required for a 100Hz
TV can very easily introduce motion artefacting which is more pronounced on
sporting events such as football because of the high contrast between the
ball and the pitch and the fast movement of the images.
That's not to say that 100Hz processing in itself is a bad thing and
they've
been doing it long enough that there *SHOULDN'T* be any excuse for a set to
have sh*t processing any more...
....having said that, TVs are now being built more to budget and that seems
to mean cutting corners because people want more and more features. If I
buy
another CRT TV it will probably be a Loewe simply because they are about
the
only manufacturer that is still building a quality set without trying to
firt build to a price.
