Thanks for the info Ian - I think you could be right. I've just posted a
reply to Riuchard who suggested trying something similar. When I put the
drive into a desktop machine it is still inaccessible under XP but can be
seen from the bios. I'm trying to carry out a sector by sector copy at the
moment to see what I can do with that.
