OT: Any Red hat heads here?
Guys,
So I've build my 1U Red Hat box, replaced the fans to quieten that puppy
down
and it seems to run okay. Now I want to make it headless, so I've been
looking
into remote access.
Ideally would like a terminal services-a-like service, but the nearest I
have
come is vnc. I'm not quite sure how it is set up on a *nix box though -
there
seems to be a vncserver service running (or at least installed) when the
box
starts, but if I try to connect to server:1, I can't.
If however, I ssh in to the box and do a "vncserver :2" then I
can connect to
server:2 okay.
What is this first session & why can't I connect to it?
Is there any way to set it up so that I DON'T have to ssh in first?
Also, how do I get out of it? If I log off in the vnc session, I just get
the
desktop without any icons on it, so I seem to have to go back to my ssh
session
and kill -9 the process.
And how do I get out of the ssh session apart from closing the window? Or
does
closing the window log me off too? I tried close/quit/exit/logoff/logout
etc
to no avail.....
Oh yeah, and now I have a *nix box, what am I gonna do with it? Only built
it
coz I wanted a legitimate 1U device to put in my 19" rack :)
cheers,
T.
