No don't use CAT5

If you want to get NACOSS certification at a later date to it must be
proper stranded alarm cable.

Also CAT5 is harddrawn and will work harden and probably snap off when
you screw in terminals.

Use 8core stranded through-out

Dean.

Subject: [ukha_d] Wiring for alarm systems

I'm about to start wiring up a new extension, and want to put wiring in
for PIR's and reed switches to cover openings and movement in rooms. I
was thinking of using Cat5e into the corners of rooms, and into the
window/door frames for the PIR and reed switches, but I notices that
Cat5e is a thinner wire grade than the normal 4 wire alarm cable.

Will this work over cat5e, or should I just go for 4 wire alarm cable to
these locations? The additional wires in cat5e might prove useful in
the future, especially in the PIR locations.

Cheers
Dave
