I guess that a lot of the low frequency noise goes through the structure -
ie the
plasterboard/wooden joists the speakers are attached to. If this is true,
then any acoustic barrier
above would only damp mid/high frequency noise.

Is there anything suitable, and is this a reasonable rather than stupid
idea, to use a thin
absorbent material between the speaker and plasterboard, for the annular
region that the speaker is
in contact with the ceiling?
