No, wadding only really gets the higher frequencies.
The problem is more vibration than actual sound, especially at frequencies
below about 150hz (wadding gets rid of the acoustic stuff 120hz up ish).
Plasterboard is really far too flexible for good isolation (there's even
one
company in the US that puts transducers on the back of Plasterboard panels
to make 'speakerwalls'). The problem is really tricky, even if you mount
the
speaker onto something quite solid, the solid 'thing' is bound to be part
of
the floor above.
maybe look at an 'in-room' sub, to keep as little 'low end' going to the
ceiling speakers. I'm always impressed by those cheap PC speakers that have
a huge sub, and tiny satellites, they sound OK to me, yet the satellites
are
probably 3" drivers max.
Good luck.

Not tried that but could be worth a go. Does it absorb lower
frequencies?
Paul.

What about lining the upper area with acoustic matting as used in "In
Car
Entertainment"?

Even with a lot of insulation, you still may get a lot of the bass
frequencies (as I do) transmitting to the upstairs rooms (unless you can
physically isolate the speakers and box?!)

Hi Mick
I have installed a pair of ceiling speakers into my dining room.
There is a great amount of sound leakage to the upstair bedroom when
they
are playing music.
If I was doing the installation again I would definitely look at
creating an
enclosure around the rear of the speaker and using some loft insulation
to
prevent sound leakage to the upstairs rooms.
Good luck
Tom
