A belated reply - apologies.
A few large-ish holes drilled around the edge, with some quite small holes

(say 2mm) in the square corners IYSWIM. Then it's a bit of elbow grease, a

small hacksaw blade and a fine file I'm afraid. You may want to make up a
w=
ooden support from plywood etc. with a rectangular hole just larger than
th=
e one you want to make in the metal. Line up the two holes and temporarily
=
tape the whole thing together. That way, you support the metal on
something=
substantial and don't risk bending it while filing. A final smoothing with=
wet, wet & dry paper will get rid of the file marks.
Alternatively, consider a Dremel / Rotozip. I've not tried them so can't
of=
fer and handy tips.=20
