Out of interest (I'm new to this stuff remember) how do you run the cables
through the walls? I see they are of the stud variety, and the false
ceiling
is obviously a help, but do you plan on taking the plasterboard off of all
some of the walls, or can you do it with less overall damage?

Thanks,
Alistair

I am putting together a home-automation plan for a new flat, and
would welcome any feedback or suggestions.

It is a newly built three bedroom ground floor flat with shared
entrance hall. Internal walls are stud partition, and some areas
have a 2ft false ceiling (hall, bathrooms, kitchen, and utility). It
has a concrete floor with underfloor heating. Boiler and CH room
unit (Siebe Lifestyle LP722) are in the utility room. Each room has a
thermostat (Cewal). Hot water cylinder and underfloor heating feed
are in the store to the right of the bathroom. Consumer unit and gas
meter are in the store to the left of the bathroom. Node zero will
be placed here as well.

Floor plan and my initial HA wiring/layout plan may be found at:

Initially I will just install a data network and a Comfort
alarm/control system. S-video output from Sky+ will be distributed
over cat5e via Kat5 modules. I can distribute to several rooms using
the existing Sky+ outputs. Later I will buy on of Keiths S-video
matrix switchers when it becomes available. I will also add a
Homevision Pro system in the future.

I might also leave the Smartfit heating control system until a later
time. Either that, or get someone in to connect it up. I'm happy
enough with wiring, but not to sure of my way around a heating
system

I dont plan on any CCTV.
