There are companies like Vogon.co.uk or ontrack.co.uk	who'll do this,
prices
usually start at a few hundred £ for simple recovery. I've used Vogon
before
(many years ago) for a DAT tape recovery.

I've read that some people have successfully swapped the PCB from a known
good (identical) HDD and recovered data, but that of course assumes it's an
electronic rather than a mechanical failure.

You could always install a new HDD and restore from the backup :-) (I know
what it's like, Dad's got a CD-RW and a TR-5 tape drive, but still refuses
to backup !)
