Try this:
Put it in the freezer for a couple of hours - take anti-static
precautions and seal it against moisture. Then reconfigure
as a slave drive and boot from a different disk.
If you're lucky you have about 20 minutes to copy essential
data until the drive warms up enough to stop working again.
It is sometimes possible to repeat this procedure several times
before total failure.
