I have had a 180GXP in my desktop for around 9 months now (Pre Hitachi)
and=
I have not had a single problem. I have had my 40GB WD go titsup.com and a=
second 40GB WD drive is making similar noises. The IBM is not the quietest=
drive on the block but it does hold its own on speed. I think IBM went thr=
ough a bad patch with reliability and this rep has stuck but my next drive
=
will be an IBM/Hitachi and not a WD.=0D

As a matter of interest, has anyone still had problems with the newer=0D
IBM/Hitachi Deskstar drives?=0D
=0D
I bought one a couple of months ago and I am well pleased with its=0D
performance etc. It certainly improved the speed of my 1.2 Athlon machine =
in=0D
that programmes now load in a fraction of the time they used to take.=0D
=0D
I did read about lots of failures but they where all referring to the IBM=
=0D
drives, no mention of Hitachi in there?=0D
