New technology developed by Hitachi, Ltd., and its audio and videotape
subsidiary, Hitachi Maxell Ltd., will allow 200 movies to be stored on one
DVD. Two hundred data-storing layers are stacked to ensure accurate reading
and writing of a vast amount of data that can store up to 1TB of data,
which
is about 400 hours. The company hopes to sell products using the new
technology by 2007.
