RE: DLT drive with Win2K

David,

Thanks for this, all appears to be working fine.

I have backed up the Server, and I'm backing up the 'Data' on the common
drive on the network, only 4 Gb.

As I understand it you can only do a full back-up of the machine the
tape drive is in... Other than that it is just directories...

What I would also like to do is to take an 'image' of each machine over
the network, while they have a working config, so that I can always go
back to a known good config. Not too worried if I lose a couple of
week's worth of little tweaks (read new applications).

I don't have a DVD writer, and I was hoping to be able to use the tape
drive. My thoughts are to make a Norton Ghost image to another machine
over the network, then back this 'image' up onto tape ? Seems very long
winded though. Alternatively it's Norton Ghost and multiple CDRs for
each machine...

Nigel

The DLT tape drive can be used with Microsoft backup which is part of
Win 2K or otherwise you would need to look at commercial software such
as Backup Exec or Brightstor ( aka Arcserve ) to store to tape it will
not appear as a drive in my computer

Hope this is not seen as OT.

I am configuring a machine for use with Homeseer. It's actually a Compaq
Proliant 6500. I've loaded Win2K and all seems fine except no sign of
the DLT.. It has 3x4.3Gb drives configured as RAID 5 and a CD-Rom (all
SCSI). This was done with Smart Start.

I've checked in 'Hardware Devices' and it's there (ID6 on the SCSI), but
how do I use it ? I expected it to appear as a Drive in 'My Computer'. I
intend to use it to store images of various PCs (Norton Ghost?) and the
back-ups of some data.

I'm not sure if I need to use Smart Start to set this up properly, It
wasn't me who used Smart Start to do the initial Config... and I've
never used SS...

Any good links ?

Thanks in advance, Nigel
