Re: [OT] Vinyl Ripping

Hi Alan

I am from the old school of keeping the signal pure, don't dick about=20
with it unless you have to. Start with the best record deck/cartridge=20
and phono stage that you can. Keep the record clean or get it clean=20
with a nitty gritty machine if you can. As I mentioned I would then=20
like a quality ADC, I would be happy to pay a few hundred pounds for=20
this.

I agree that to save in WAV format would be best if you have a few=20
spare TB of disk but my HP Jukebox only plays MP3 so I cut at 320KB=20
for a reasonable standard. ( Did I mention I have spare one of these=20
for sale ( offers just over =A3250 to secure a sale)).

I then used a product called wave repair=20
(http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~abcomp/wavrep.htm
) that is very=20
powerful and can be used to clean recording etc. This software=20
remains free for its basic functions of finding and spliting tracks=20
>from
is what it always sounded like to me, you can strangle the dynamics=20
and remove this if you wish.

Once I have a group of WAV files I use CDEX to convert to MP3=20
(www.cdex.n3.net) to convert from WAV to MP3. Then MP3 Tag Studio (=20
cant remember where this came from) to add all of the artist detail.

This gives me a large number of files that I drop onto the Jukebox (=20
did I say I had a spare for sale?) over the home network. The Jukebox=20
the imports them and manages a database using the MP3 Tags.

Regards
Ian=20
