RE: Re: [OT] Vinyl Ripping

Alan

I tend to rip to Wav=20

Then use Soundforge to =93iron out =93 the bad pops and clicks

You can actually paint them out on the waveform

The longer you spend the better it gets

I was about to post the same question about the ADC, I have now started
ripping some LPs for SWMBO they seem OK if a little less colourful than the
original.
What software are you using, I tried a program to remove the pops and
click=
s
but this just distorted the recording.
I was planning to leave the recordings as WAV files, is there any benefit
other than space with converting to MP3.

Alancc ........currently seeking out some terabytes :-)

I am in the process of ripping all my LPs onto my HP Jukebox ( I
still have that spare Jukebox for sale by the way, see a review here
http://www.techtv.com/products/consumerelectronics/story/0,23008,33625
80,00.html ).

I used my old Linn record deck and bought a small Phono Pre-amp
called Pro-Ject, it was about =A340 but I think Maplin do a cheaper
one.

I cut all of my disks to Wav via the PC sound card, then used some
shareware to cut out the tracks, convert to MP3 ( at 320k) and add
all the track info for the database. ( I will send you the URL's for
teh software used if you are interested.)

I am generaly very happy with the results but I am sure I could get a
better ADC than the unit on a motherboard sound card. I have been
looking for something but all the products I can see have more
functionality in the way of DAC and sound generation than the other
way. Anyone aware or a reasonble ADC that doesnt cost the earth?
