That is a rather sweeping statement to make. As discussed and debated many
times in the list, X-10 is generally reliable and can be made more so by
planning an X-10 system properly. Afterall, no one would attempt to
install a "proper" system without the necessary detailed planning
beforehand.
As to the statement about similar costs, it depends on the configuration
and functionality required. For example, a time-scheduled X-10 system
controlling a few lights and appliances around the house is undoubtedly
much cheaper than any high-end system you care to mention.
