Generally disk diagnostics that people are referring to for Tivo drives
are the manufacturer's low level disk diagnostics utils. Depending on
the mfr of your hard drive, will depend on what you get etc. For Maxtor
drives, the util is downloadable from their site, and is called PowerMax.

Tivo uses a non-standard file system and ISTR it can't be defragged. The
block/cluster sizes are optimized for minimal wastage due to the
expected usage.
