I don't know if the AMD SMP "method" is not supported by DivX but
what I
do know is that on my dual PIII 1Ghz using two processors _nearly_
doubles the frame rate when encoding DivX4 avi's when compared to only
running one processor. I have also done this test on a Dual P4 Xeon and
the frame rate _more_ than doubles when using two processors as apposed
to useing only one processor.

I am using FlaskMPEG and DivX4 - maybe the version of codec and if the
processors are Intel or not has an influence.

Just my experience....
Pedro

I looked into divx encoding at length. The coding does not lend itself
to SMP (Symetric Multi Processing) at all. I was about to invest in a
dual athlon mobo, from overclockers. But after reading some of the divx
forums and speaking to one or two hard core rippers decided that the
investment, currently, isnt worth it. Although maybe divx encoding on
something like a beowulf configuration maybe able to handle distributive
processing.
