The functions, are not what I would call extensive however I do like the
idea of measureing phase shift to determin that the load is too
inductive and also that there is a triac fault, I have to say I am not
sure how this is done, there appears to be just two inputs from the hot
side, one is clearly a zero cross detect circuit the other appears to
reverse bias a zener diode to triger a transister on the positive half
wave, the reverse bias would trigger when the triac had not fired, and
would switch off when the triac fires at the desired phase angle, with a
high inductive load I assume there would be a delay in the time from the
triac fire to the time when the zener starts to behave like a normal
diode again.

I like the idea, however in my design I don't power my micro from the
powerline as is done in this design, this is bacause my triac is
opto-isolated from the hot side (because this connects to my home
network I don't want to fry all my toys). To add this feature I cannot
see how I could do it without adding a power line supply.
