12V is fine for outside - regardless of current capability.  Just make sure
you put the transformer _inside_ the house!

As for killing you - yes, the amps do kill you, but it needs a decent
voltage to "puncture" under the (relatively) dry skin to the much more
conductive goo that's inside us humans, IIRC.  That's why the industry /
standards bodies have deemed any voltage under 50V to be "Safe Extra Low
Voltage" (SELV).

Looks like enough then!  I shouldv remembered that calc from my GCSE
Physics.  What a dumb ass I am :-).  Is 5 amps going to be safe for
outside?  Always thought it was the amps that killed you and not the
Volts??
