if the transceiver is good enough, then it can be placed everywhere in the
rom, bouncing the walls is not a problem even for standard remotes ....
but.. I don't know how big your room is...;).

The real problem is another one. The light dimmers with IR support does not
recognise a specific command, so.... any command you send the light will be
switched or dimmed. So... if you have in the same room some electronic
equipments with IR input (like AV equipments, etc.) then.... when you will
try to switch the TV On (let's say)... the light will be controlled too....
.... but.... the good part... is that the sensibility of the IR input for
the switches is not so good, so you must put the transmitter in line with
the receiver....

So.... you must use separate zone for the lights, then put a small IR
transmitter in the line of sight with the switch.
