The ones I got from Simon at Ecolume are superb for occupancy detection
(which reminds me to talk to him actually) they are the ceiling mounted
ones very, very good PIRs.

The "pet immune" ones are virtually useless for occupancy, but if you
have pets then there are not a lot of options there.

The "mini-PIR" is okay, but not the best for occupancy.

I got some cheapo ones from B&Q [you should try that shop! :D] that work
very well indeed, but usual B&Q no-name stuff.

I also got some from a local supplier which were made by Honeywell and
these are excellent for occupancy as well. These are also like normal
PIRs but seem to be more sensitive than the others, whilst retaining the
"normal" PIR mounting and, more importantly, wiring.

The one huge caveat with PIRs in general is positioning IME, if they are
not positioned correctly then they won't work. By that the I include the
direction they are aimed in, the height and what kind of room/area they
are in, often in larger rooms and especially hallways more than one is
needed to give reliable coverage. Obviously if positioning is an issue
then the more sensitive you can get the PIR the better.
