RE: DVD drive

Have either of you guys identified if it actually achieves the quoted
DVD write speeds? I know some of the other drives don't. Are there a
couple of other 4x drives out or coming out? I'm thinking about a new
DVD writer (getting fed up of an hour burn to DVD-R!). Also, how much
did you pay and where did you get it?

Cheers,

Paul.

Got my DRU500A the other day as well...... after multiple delays to the
release date and lacks of stock everywhere.... :( And the discs I bought

with it (ordered a selection but the supplier ended up sending me all
the same type.... Vivastar DVD-R) refuse to work.... :( But the Sony
disc I got with it worked fine and got some other discs that have worked

fine for data, gonna try them for video tonight. (excellent for CDs.....

replacing a 6 speed writer with a 24 speed one.... :) )

Amar - you have to have a think about wether you want a set top or PC
based solution..... PC based is the only way you'll be able to  "backup
your dvd library" - you can do a direct copy from one dual layer disc to

2 R discs... with a set top recorder, you'd be doing an encode and
record on the decoded video/ audio out of your player, and I'm pretty
sure you won't get 5.1 etc out of that. If you go the PC based route,
you'll need a video capture card to get them into the PC in the first
place.
