I don't have that camera but might be able to help...
I have an Olympus E10 which is a muther of a camera - has a current
drain that makes battery makers grin widely!
Use Alkalines in that - even Duracells - and I get very similar results
to you, about 30 shots and the camera shuts down very abruptly with
only
the briefest battery low warning (if any). This is exaserbated by the
fact that I use a 1Gb IBM microdrive in the camera too which makes the
battery drain even worse.
Using normal NiCad batteries gives slightly better results but really I
have to use NiMh batteries - the thing is the cameras power management
is "calibrated" for the discharge characteristics of NiMh
batteri=
es and
because Alkalines (and NiCads) dicharge more linearly then the camera
shuts down prematurely!
Get yourself on the internet and hunt for some seriously high capacity
AA NiMh cells - I'm sure you can get 1,800 and even 1,900 mAh cells -
plus a *GOOD* charger. I skipped the AA's and bought the proper Olympus
Lithium Polymer battery and grip for my E10 - a mere snip at =A3700!
(Having said that it has *NEVER* run out of power on me when I've been
out!)
