Re: Bik occupancy detection
Hi Scott
I have a couple of the original units the States and in testing they
performed well. I had a problem with the earth on my house floating a
little and where these units were very sensitive and the way I was
trying
to use it (large area) I had problems. In theory I have sorted the
house
earth now (gone to PME) but have not had the opportunity to get the
units
out again. Be aware they need -12 and +12 - read the bit on power
supplies.
I believe Stuart Grimshaw was trying to put one together from a PCB I
built
for him but I don't know what the end result was. Over to you Stuart.
This is still something I am interested in but the units would NOT be
mega
cheap (cost of components) and we need to do more testing. I am quite
wrapped up with xAP stuff at the moment so time is against me. I do
however
have most of the components for a unit.
If Stuarts one worked then the way forward would be to make a copy
design
and PCB so we have some more control over the design. In particular I a
referring to the relay that is activated when the sensor 'clicks'. A
transistor may be better or some other alternative.

I know this subject has occurred before, but it was prior to me joining
the
list (may 2001?)
I searched the archive and saw that a group from this list were looking
to
build a Bik kit.
Was it ever done?
Does anyone have a completed one that I could try?
Is anyone using one at home?
For those not in the know: www.bik.com <http://www.bik.com/> (they
don't
make it any more, but you can DIY)
