OK - The controller I built is still in its rat nests form but still
working
fine.

I started to look at adding some sort of RS232 control so that if it
came to
it a could produce one pcb to be used either as a standalone controller
or a
RS232 controller.

I also took another look at the xAP happenings. There is PIC code
available
by the other Ian's in the group for xAP on a PIC. However the PIC sits
there
constantly looking at the serial stream and when it receives the correct packet actions the request. I need to keep the DMX o/p going all the
time.
It is beyond a small PIC to o/p DMX and monitor and decode a RS232
stream.
Although I could increase the PIC to a more powerful unit it will still
mean
writing some fancy interupt routines. The easiest way is to use two
small
PIC's (only adds =A31.45 on to the cost) and let them talk at the
appropriate
time.

There seems to have been a change in the xAP protocol recently and also
mention of PIC code to handle xAP on its own. I was going to post to the xAP
group but they have seemed quite busy of late with the protocol changes
etc.
So for the time being the project is holding. I would be interested if
anyone has any ideas on this or if anyone form the xAP group would like
to
comment ?
