RE: [OT] DVD drives & DOS
Paul,
If these are OS _images_ as opposed to installation routines, then does it
need to be a DOS floppy?
I'm fairly confident that one could shoehorn a Linux kernel, a set of
device drivers for an IDE harddisk, a set of device drivers for a specific
DVD reader, and a "copy all" routine onto a single floppy.
Linux can read / write and format FAT and NTFS these days.

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] DVD drives & DOS
Chaps, sorry for the OT, but I have a rather pressing question that I need
to answer ASAP...
Can anyone tell me for sure whether it is possible to make a DVD drive work
(as a DVD, not just a CD) under DOS? I didn't think it was possible, but
some colleagues are suggesting that we can distribute some OS images on DVD
(either bootable DVD's or with an accompanying boot floppy) for
installation
onto new PC's that have no OS installed...
Certainly I'm pretty sure that it can't be done with the standard MSCDEX
driver, but does anyone know of any available driver that will allow access
to DVDs from DOS (not a DOS session under windows)
TIA
Paul G.
