When you can get the rio for $99 from Tiger, sure it's a big step to
$299 for the Audiotron, but if you're looking at the more normal Rio
price around $200, there's less of a leap to the Audiotron price point
and thus the price is less relevant.
When you consider that the price of the Rio includes a pants amp, then
you are paying very little money for the guts of the thing, and quality
suffers as a result - both quality of sound and of the physical unit
itself.

I wouldn't choose to have a crappy LCD and crappy controls on my player,
with a rather suspect colour scheme unless space was at a premium.
As you suggest, you get what you pay for - and with the Rio you get
(IMO) an inferior product.
You say you would prefer the Rio in a proper case - fine, save up and
buy an Audiotron!
I don't think if you are motivated only by price that you will _ever_
get what you want and you will be forever making do with inferior
product.

Oh gawd - this is getting a bit rant-ish and I can see it turning into a
flame war.  I don't want it to, I'm just saying, _IMO_ price is not the
most important factor (and no, I don't have money to burn either).
