                        I was under the impression that cables should not be
run in parallel .I recall reading something refering to electrical cables
crossing telephone cables should cross at 90 degrees. In the ideal situation
it would be nice to keep them seperated but you would be pretty unlucky if
you did have problems if they are only in close proximity dropping down to
the switch.

  Cables running parallel to each other shouldn't induce voltage - induction
  happens when wires cross.  Shouldn't be a problem for basic switching but
  induced noise can cause problems with IR circuits.  Try and keep any mains
  and LV cables at least 50mm apart.
