The mount command is used to mount a storage device into the filing
system, so the first argument is the device that you want to mount, and
the second argument is the mountpoint within the filing system under
which the device will appear. Therefore, in your above example, you're
attempting to mount the /dev/hda1 device so that it appears in the
directory /mnt/dos - that is, the /mnt/dos directory will contain the
contents of the hard disc.

There are other options to the mount command to indicate the type of
filing system that is on the device etc.

Generally, /dev/hda represents the IDE primary master, /dev/hdb the IDE
primary slave, /dev/hdc the IDE secondary master, and /dev/hdd the IDE
secondary slave. The number after this refers to the partition on the
drive, so /dev/hda1 is the primary partition on the IDE primary master.

You said that on boot up the two hard drives appear as hdc and hdd -
this indicates that they are secondary master and secondary slave
respectively. I know nowt about Tivos, but is it possible that you've
plugged the IDE lead from the drives into the secondary IDE slot rather
than the primary IDE slot on the mobo?

You didn't give a phone number ;) Mail me if you're still in trouble, I
may be able to help.
