I brought a fibre optic cable which I run from my sound card to my Sony
amp and it works great I have a 30ft optical cable purchased from the US

I might - just might have some old long glass optical-fibre connections
at
work..... will have a look. Might need to mangle the connector a bit
(take
of the bayonet bit), but they might fit. watch this space.

It can but not with the cheap shitty fibre and emitters/detectors that
are used in domestic kit.
