RE: HA and Alarm Panels

Ok here is how I have HomeVision and Comfort set up.

Anything to do with security e.g. PIR's, contact breaks, perimeter
lighting, CCTV switching etc is controlled by Comfort.  All other home
automation stuff automated lights and irrigation control etc are controlled
by HV.

I could do all the automation stuff in HV but like the idea that if HV is
offline or being amended with new programming that may not be stable that I
still have a rock solid security system up and running.

Thanks for the replies Mike and Kenneth.  However I think perhaps I wasn't
clear enough.  I understand the reasons for wanting to have an Alarm system
"talking" to a home controller (as explained by both of you), however my
question restated maybe a little clearer is:

"for people who own security panels/systems WITH elements of HA controller
functionality (e.g. lighting control possibilities) built in (eg. Genesis
or Comfort) AND also own an HA controller such as Homevision, do they
actually use the HA controller functions in the security panels/systems and
if so why. "

Maybe people with both always purchased the security panels/systems for
other reasons than the HA controlling function (and security of course
which is a given) eg. Comfort for telephony functions.

Does that make sense ??

Shane
