RE: CAT 5

Ahhhh Tony

Thanks exactly what I meant, see it was perfectly clear (Not!).

As previously posted, I will now wake up and engage my brain before
typing begins :-)

I wish I was still on holiday :-(
I wish it was sunny :-(
I wish the wine was cheaper here :-( and the food :-(
And I WISH THE BL**DY electricians would finish wiring my house so I
could get on and play :-(

Graham,

Franks message earlier seemed to make sense - A at one end and B at the
other would give you x-over.
Rob OTOH, seems to be on another planet :-)
I think what he means is:
Patch panel to socket: A to A
Hub/switch to hub/switch: A to B (unless said item has an 'uplink'
switch,
so you use an A cable & let the device do the x-over internally).
PC to PC: A to B

What you say is also correct - for straight through wiring, it doesn't
make
a difference as long as you use the same standard throughout.
(some of my sockets are still x-overed due to incorrect colour coding,
but
too lazy to fix as are in 'just case' locations and unlikely to be used.
Note to self: check any unused socket before you do attempt to use it!)

Hopefully this is clear all round!

Tony
