Graham,

Franks message earlier seemed to make sense - A at one end and B at the
other would give you x-over.
Rob OTOH, seems to be on another planet :-)
I think what he means is:
Patch panel to socket: A to A
Hub/switch to hub/switch: A to B (unless said item has an 'uplink' switch,
so you use an A cable & let the device do the x-over internally).
PC to PC: A to B

What you say is also correct - for straight through wiring, it doesn't make
a difference as long as you use the same standard throughout.
(some of my sockets are still x-overed due to incorrect colour coding, but
too lazy to fix as are in 'just case' locations and unlikely to be used.
Note to self: check any unused socket before you do attempt to use it!)
