I always envisiged it as akin to a file explorer display. Like you
browse for a folder in Windows, you get a long 'virtual' list that it
loads up bit by bit as each 'page' is displayed whilst you go
through and find the file you want. On a 2 line LCD ... yeah, he has
a point!

Random access vs needing to be held in memory.

I have no idea how many songs I have. I just know I have some
1000 odd albums (excluding the many I've acquired elsewhere) that
I want to be able to select between when I feel like it.

I do resent the above statement, I must say. Just because he
doesn't have a big collection doesn't mean others won't. Then
again, I utterly fail to understand how anybody can watch
Eastenders (or football for that matter!) so I do the same thing too.
