Hides head in shame.

      yes entirely possible..  or if you have gnu tar use the -z option to
      compress within tar.

      e.g (to store to file): tar cf - *.c compress - > filename.tar.Z

      or a more whizz bang approach which might not be a appropriate

      tar cf - *.c compress -c - rsh remote_box '(cd /diff/dir && zcat - tar
      xvf - )'

      thanks

      Sorry for the OT post but I am in need of some Unix help.

      I have got to tar and compress some files up but they will not fit into
      the new location until they are compressed and they are too big to be
      tared in location.

      Basically can pipe a tar into a compress ie

      Tar blah.tar * compress

      Is this possible?

      Regards Ben
