Title: Re: [ukha_d] Some DVD bargains if you're interested, including DVDR!
Well - in round terms, HDD have got 1000 times cheaper in the last 10 years...

... even assuming that PVRs move to non-lossy storage in 3-4 years time, then we'll see your second approach become cost-effective. After all, the trend in the UK has been to move to more channels, rather than a smaller number of HDTV ones (I'm glad to see that the BBC has moved away from that a bit in the terrestrial Digital franchise, but it's still not HDTV.) As such the storage / hour video is contant, and the cost of storage media is falling.

I agree that DVD-recordable media will fall further in price as well, but...

They'll co-exist... After all, you have to archive StarTrek/Buffy off the TIVO onto something.... :) LOL

Lee.

Hmm, unless we can find some cheap 1TB drives somewhere and hang a Raid5 off the back of the TIVO...

LOL - No :-)

Seriously, though - do we think DVD-(some recordable format) is going to beat PVR technology?

Personally, I think that PVR will win in the consumer space.)

(Jason - please comment here, particularly if you disagree - I'd far rather have someone eloquent and opinionated arguing against me than 100 yes-men !)
