I have managed to get my boss to agree to let me buy a Compaq 3870 with some extras approx £700+vat.

Knowing many of the group currently use these if anybody can advise on what i intend to do I would be grateful.

Most of it will be done as a learning process in my own time to save me a lot of time/aggro doing site surveys, I am having problems with my joints and expect them to get much worse as I come of medication to go on a drug trial, Unfortunately part of my job entails site surveys, including climbing ladders onto scaffolding and steelwork.

I intend to break power station pipework, many systems, down into image maps (I'll build 3d autocad models, combine them and then take specific views into gifs then create image maps), which can be viewed in explorer and particular points on the image maps which when selected will open a tab sheet in excel and goto a specific cell. There will be approx 10 excel files with 100 tab sheets in each.

When a point is selected the sheet will open and data can be entered in a number of cells.
Creating image maps to open htm files etc. is no problem, but can anyone advise best way to open specific excel file, sheet and highlight cell to enter data...

SWMBO let me order a T39 phone with bluetooth which hopefully I can mate to the Compaq to play with "for fun"..

Any advise gratefully received

Campbell
