1) get some chip glue
2) Get an counter-top oven from argos (about 40 quid)
3) Magnfiers - head worn
4) good lighting
5) tweezers

You now have what it takes to stick the chip to the board in the right
place.

6) Metcal iron with the surface mount bit.  Its got like a tiny
"bucket" you
put feed an inch of solder into, the drag the bit along the line of the
pins.  Its like a hand held wave soldering machine, but somewhat smaller
:-)
You will screw up sometimes.

Or

Give up.  Design a daughter PCB to hold the SMT chips, and get an assembler
to do a batch.  There are a number of SMT to DIL converters available, if
one fits your chip that simplifies matters further.
