The usual way to wire a switch is to run power to the rose and then
have a live loop to the switch, but sometimes it is done the other
way around, with the power being run to the switch.

It sounds as though the 3 red wires in your switch are the live, the
single red is your switched live and the black wires are your neutral.

A LW10G (Euro Lightswitch) might be a better replacement for your
setup.
