Just been having a look at the crystalfontz web site the 633 looks very
interesting
16x2 characters plus 6 button keypad.
It's got built in 1-wire and can autonomously update temperate from
DS18B20s
onto the display !!!
Also acts as a RS232-1-wire bridge.
of course you can write to the screen and get keypresses as well.
it also monitors fan speed - for use on the front of a PC etc.
