I've had a look at the US version of this, which to me looks like the UK
version except with the plug straight out of the back of the unit, and
not on a cable (and obviously different voltage ;) )

Is there anything you could do to mount the plug pins in the back of the
chime box...........?

The other option would involve keeping it there and using whole house
audio type arrangements to broadcast an MP3 or WAV file through to the
room you're in ;)
