Patrick, I agree, it is a no brainer. Except I
already have BasicX and Siteplayer and I doubt there would be much
commercial
interest in anything I produce.
I'm also tempted by the TINI a lot on the
basis it
does just about everything the Rabbit does, but it has a lot more memory
and
also has support (as has the BasicX) for the Dallas 1 wire bus. Both of
which
make it a lot more suitable for another project idea have on the back
burner: a
data logger for my track day car.
Also to colour my decision: I can programme
VB, C,
but not Java. I dislike C programming with a passion, and ambivalent about
learning Java. Hence, I'm tempted by Rabbit, but put off by a couple of
things.
Ray.

Ray, I'd have thought the
Rabbit
option was a no-brainer. Getting a web interface to comfort working
with
Rabbit took no time at all, doing a thermostat web interface would be a
doddle. The dev kit comprises: docs, a C compiler/downloader and dev
board
which just has a 5V power supply and TTL->RS232 level shifter. If
you
can buy the compiler separately, you don't really need the dev board
itself. Only downer for a thermostatic application is the Rabbit's lack
of
on- board A to D.
