This is what I am doing and the two modules (not the RS232 one) from the
Maplin site are the ones I am using. I have it running on a PIC 16F628 but
the final project will be aimed at the 16F876 or 877. It is interrupt based
so if the micro has to do something else as well (as in my case) it is
relatively easy to add.

John,

Maplin sell some modules to decode and send via RS232 but expensive. If you
can programme a microcontroller, you can reduce the cost.

Search for RUGBY on the Maplin website.
