Because some of us have *HUGE* collections, to store lossless would
require in the order of 2-3TB, yes I did say Terabits! ;) Only a rough
guess mind, could be a lot more.
The other reason is that I transfer music to the car, onto an M-Station
which only has 10Gb in it and that is another bottleneck for lossless
compression, portability.

Granted, and for that reason I have a decent CD player to really listen
to music if I want, in the car or as background stuff it doesn't really
matter IMHO.
