Re: Displays around the house - direct to a pc or via tcp/ip

You don't need a card to do RS485. You can buy 232-485 convertors. You will=
not get a card for =A330 anyway. I have not seen any at that price but if someone does, I would love to know about it.

Check out www.kksystems.co.uk as they have various types. For our use, the<= BR> non-isolated type is the cheapest.

http:/= /www.kksystems.com/english/html_files/products.htm for the convertors page. They have a price list on the website.

Remember too that RS485 is half duplex and will require special software on=
the PC end unless you buy one of the intelligent convertors but that adds t= o
the cost!!

That's ok if we understand what this means, to have multi drop we cannot use RS232 (unless we daisy chain displays and messages get passd down
the line to reach the correct device (ie two serial ports one each
display)), so this means we need a IO card for the pc or a custom RS232
<> 485 converter. I don't know what the cost is for a  card, rem= ember
that many people are using old PC's for HA and we need to source ones
which work both bus styles. Lets say that the card is say =A330
