couple of DECT phones and slave them to the master, I can have even
more phones. But realistically how many do I need ? Not even 16 - so
again just because you can do it does not mean you have to.

This is down to the individual PBX specifications. You /should/ have
one master socket with additional slave sockets connected off it,
either radially or daisy chained. In practice you will almost
certainly find that using multiple master sockets connected in
parallel will cause no ill-effects. You are going to use cat5
structured cabling for your phone extensions, aren't you?!

www.ultimate106.co.uk - it has talking caller id a la Meteor, and has
a optional door entry kit which can be used to divert calls to a
mobile etc if you are not in a la Comfort alarm system. It has 1
line, 6 extensions and recommends a maximum of 12 handsets. Here is
blurb from the site

This is a good find, and looks well suited to use with comfort. There
is some duplication of functionality - comfort has voicemail and
doorphone functionality, for example. I'm not sure that talking
caller ID is going to cut the mustard - if your house is big enough
for 16 phones, you're likely to have problems hearing the
announcement from a unit buried in the depths of your node 0 :-)

Good value, but bear in mind a solwise 3+8 will only set you back GBP
169. It doesn't do caller id announcement, and doesn't have voicemail
though.

any ideas ? Tim?

Which features are you are particularly looking for, but are having
trouble matching?
