I should not get a feedback loop as I will only be using mini-emitters strapped to the DVD/VCR etc... If worst comes to worst and I have problems I can hide the VCR/DVD....
 
Not really an option for my stereo gear though as the Cyrus gear looks too good to hide away in a cupboard :-)

This may be a bit of trial and error. Another possibility other than those mentioned below is the repeater transmitting at almost the same time as the remote and effectively corrupting the transmission. You would have to be careful of feedback loops as well where the transmitter output is picked up by the receiver and loops.
 
Zoned systems offer a lot more flexibility but its exact capabilities would depend on the system chosen.
