If I had my time again, I'd buy another Meridian processor,
but perhaps the 800 series units as they allow real upgrades,
such as their new digital audio link for DVD-A. But Meridian
will abandon you if you go the 500 series route. The 565
for example has now been dropped and there was no
upgrade path offered. In that case the new TAG sounds
interesting, where they will recycle parts to build the next
model for you.

As for speakers, I love the 5000's and it's not too hard
to justify. Simply work out the price of good speakers,
say about =A32000 then add DACs and power amps
and you are already at the price of the 5000's. That
said and I would be tempted to go this route as it
ties you less the the meridian stuff, in case you
wanted out.
